Ascom Wireless Solutions Freeset DCT1800 Chosen by Orlando Regional Healthcare System for On-Campus

1900 MHz Frequency and Wider Coverage Area Make Ascom(R) Freeset System the Best Choice in Wireless Telephony for Prominent Florida Hospital System

Ascom Wireless Solutions, a market leader for in-building wireless communication solutions, has been selected to provide on-campus wireless telephony services for the Orlando Regional Healthcare System (ORHS).

The Ascom Freeset DCT1800 system was chosen over competing products because it addresses the need for patient safety by operating at a lower radio frequency power output and in the 1900 MHz frequency band, which eliminates the risk of interfering with crucial electronic data transmitting equipment such as heart monitoring systems. In addition, the Ascom Freeset system proved that it could provide ORHS with a significantly wider coverage area than other systems they evaluated.

The choice of the Ascom Freeset DCT1800 system was based in part on its ability to integrate with the Rauland-Borg nurse call system in place at ORHS. This improves patient care, increases staff efficiency and eases the workload for hospital caregivers by enabling a direct voice path between patients and nurses via the Ascom portable handset. "Both physicians and nurses alike have expressed extreme pleasure with the quality of service, extent of coverage, and ease of operation," said John Berghuis, ORHS Manager of Network and Telecommunication Services.

Ascom has successfully completed the initial installation of their Freeset DCT1800 digital wireless telephone system for the Emergency Department of the Orlando Regional Medical Center, the only Level I Trauma Center in Central Florida. ORHS plans to install the Ascom Freeset system in many other critical areas throughout the system before eventually being deployed to administrative departments and nursing units. It is anticipated that the overall telephone system will be enhanced and in some cases even replaced with the Ascom solution.
